6.3 Field Experiences
Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards. (PSC 6.3)
Artifact: Capstone Log
Reflection:
The capstone field experience is my documentation that demonstrates the completion of my entire project. It showcases the multiple steps that were required to complete the capstone. The field experience shows the beginning stages of my capstone with the proposal and ending with the different parts of the capstone where I reflected the completion of my project. The field experience also shows an entry where I completed the capstone video reflection of my project.
The artifact that shows mastery of Standard 6.3 is my field experience for the capstone project. This capstone project and field experience log was complete throughout the program. During this experience, I also had the pleasure of putting my knowledge and skills to action by completing a capstone project where I was able to gather online tools and resources that my school has, but not many teachers knew about. The artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard under which it is placed because it shows that I engaged in an appropriate field experience. This experience allowed me to be gain knowledge and apply my learning on these different online tools in order to share them with the staff in my building. It also demonstrates mastery of this standard because I was able to synthesize the information learned during my research of the different online tool and translate it to the multiple newsletters and lessons I virtually presented to the staff of my school. I also applied my learning that I gained during my summer classes of last year where I learned how to create presentable and eye-catchy newsletters. This field experience also helped me demonstrate my skills that I have when it comes to using technology in the classroom. It also gave me the opportunity to implement the technologies presented to my staff in my own classroom. This allowed me to view student engagement within my own students. Overall, this is a special reflection for this artifact because I saw the capstone turn from a proposal to a concrete item that grew and developed in front of my eyes.
This field experience taught me the amount of work that it takes to complete a capstone project. I had no idea in the beginning of the program how much time it was going to take. Although, it felt very intimidating with the creation of the capstone proposal, I became more comfortable completing the capstone as the program progressed. It was a great experience for the students of my schools, teachers and administration. If I were to make any changes or do this artifact again, I would focus my attention on just specific online tool and technologies. I learned that my school has multiple resources for Reading, but I would like to see which one is being the most helpful with our students. However, at the same I think a little variety may not hurt the students. I would also make the change of adding video tutorials to my capstone project. Although I do this for the staff every now and then, I think it may be helpful to create one for each of the online tools we have. This would be beneficial for our first-year teachers and those that may not feel comfortable using the technologies.
The work that went into creating this artifact impacted student learning and teacher professional development. The students that were involved in this field experiences were directly impacted, as well as the teachers that interacted with the technologies presented. I was also impacted by this artifact because it helped me grow and develop my technological skills. The impact can be assessed by the usage of the technologies by the staff and the student interaction when using them.
